Thanks, but I still think you shouldn't lose that much XP.

Found a bug: My knight had a flaming kukri in her off hand, was stuck in a web, tried to break free and failed.
(Version 1.18, savegame was started with 1.17)

Perhaps it would work better if the game keyed off PC experience, not level, in computing the penalty?

If a PC had the XP to be level 5 but hadn't leveled up since 2nd, he'd lose all experience past the mid-point of 2nd after a Raise Dead spell. The game should instead check total character XP and then compute loss based upon that, setting to the lowest level the character is eligible to have, not the character's actual level.

The enchantment rules actually encourage waiting a while to gain a level, in certain circumstances, so that you can spend XP. So this situation might come up more often than you'd think.

Going based on Char. level is needed to help counter the cheese of intentionally remaining underleveled to get more XP from encounters (and, yes, I've seen multiple threads on other boards where people are doing that).

Well, if they want to exploit the game like that...
With no multiclassing and race XP penalties, the amount of XP recieved could be based on current XP and not on current level...

There's a 8th level cleric spell called "full resurrection" that brings back the dead with their proper XP. You can buy a scroll from Vanacia, fyi.
