Newbie - Campfires

Is there a campfire at the starting keep? Seems like there should be but I can't seem to find one.

This is my second game. I talked to the bears at the cave and they said sure for some zombie meet. Found a zombie corpse and brought it to them but couldnt figure out how to give them the zombie corpse?

Anyway, I guess I may need to just restart to take scribe scroll as I can't seem to get any campfires but seems to me there should at least be a campfire at the keep you start in? Seems like a safe enough place.

If you have any additional campfire/starting out tips they would be appreciated! Anyone did a walkthrough of say the start of teh games through the first level or so of the caves? Might be helpful for learning character recommendations, key bindings, and tips for newbs like me. Did a search on the boards for walkthrough but didnt find anything. Wouldn't have to give away the farm but could help get someone rolling? Thanks! --AOM

There's a camp site on the second floor (by which I mean the next floor above the ground floor) in the small room in the upper-right corner. Cowardly weakling as I am, I spammed that camp fire a LOT during my first playthrough (travelled back and forth from the southwest cave like a maniac)...

There is currently no fully fleshed out walkthrough for this game but I highly recommend reading (or re-reading) the very comprehensive How To Play section on this site, as it covers all the really important gameplay elements and controls (there was also a very nice PDF version of it made by forum user Clatoo but unfortunalety the original download link seems to be down).

Thank you!

I don't know how I missed that, I must have searched like three times. I guess I wasn't looking close enough and thought it was a torch. Maybe a fix for KotC2. ;)

Thank you again!

P.s. if anyone knows the .pdf link that would be great. I would love to print it out. Thanks! --AOM

The curious difficulty of noticing camp fires (you sort of see them but for some reason your brain doesn't get the message) has been the subject of many threads on this forum, and the developer tried addressing the issue by adding camp fire-specific music in order to make the camps easier to spot. But you're lucky to learn this lesson as early as the starting keep; some players (myself included) became convinced that one of the dungeons completely lacked camp fires (which it most certainly didn't) and as you can imagine became increasingly desperate as their supply of spells and HP slowly dwindled...

Just for whats its worth, I am going to email two of my friends soon and reccomend this game to them.

Both are 35-40 ish and used to be a gaming group we had for a time in northern VA area (3.5e) and so I know they are just going to enjoy the old school feel and fun.

Just for what its worth, I am going to mention to them the following initial problems I had:

Picking up items
Resting
Scribe Scroll feat and Quick Inventory feat for spell casters
5' moves

I found those bits to be non-intuitive until they are pointed out to you. I think I have a handle on them now but thought I would mention here.

Really enjoy this game though. Hope it gets some viral marketing/sales boost to keep the developer motivated. Just fyi, I heard about it from RPGcodex.com

Thanks for the help Demiath! :)

Hello anoldman, many thanks for recommending the game to your friends. I'll see if I still have that PDF somewhere.

I have uploaded the file and made it available through a link in the How To Play page.
