Does Ironman Mode mean Permadeath?

Yes. I suggest avoiding it even if you want to ironman the game. I ironman all my runes and used to use this feature. But while crashes are rare , THEY DO HAPPEN, and you lost everthing. I lost two, two digit hour runs this way.
I finished the game in ironman, and there is no extra ending, boss, or anything, so you do not miss anything.
