Actually, I would think by hard-core LG philosophy, they would be guilty by association - only if they went out of their way to surrender and then explain they were not part of the group that attacked the party would they be spared.

"Kill 'em all - let Heironius sort them out!"

My feeling exactly... And even clerics of Heironeous can make mistakes from time to time ;)

I think that's Lawful Evil at best. :)

A good person goes out of his way to do goodness, even if it causes him harm. And in this case, you would definitely parley with them first if you were good.

But then, D&D alignments have always been a pet peeve of mine. :D

We'll have to agree to disagree... First, there was no way to parley since my characters didn't know lizard language. Second, the intent of actions is just as important as the result. In this case the motive of my characters was retribution against creatures that they considered to be evil, it was not pillage. Third, there *is* such a thing as guilt by association.

SRD Quotes:
On lawful good: "A lawful good character hates to see the guilty go unpunished."

On lawful evil: "A lawful evil villain methodically takes what he wants within the limits of his code of conduct without regard for whom it hurts."
"Lawful evil is the most dangerous alignment because it represents methodical, intentional, and frequently successful evil." (emphasis mine).

Quite. Personally I dislike the D&D method of alignment because the examples are pretty absurd, but I suppose literally taking it your actions may have been lawful good. Anyway, enough of this, as it is unproductive, so let us agree to disagree, as you so aptly put.
