Sneaking in combat and sneak attacking is damage like any other. Better prices is nice, but can be lived without :)

Also spells for wizards/priests like knock-knock is a solution. But that certainly must be thought of to make it balanced.

OD&D didn't need one, and there are more interesting classes (which, to be fair, OD&D also didn't need) to add.

OTOH, a light combatant would be interesting - I'd model it more on swashbucklers and the 3e scout class than a rogue, so movement would be important. I'm not sure how well a class whose primary damage requires them to move every turn (perhaps with a move-attack-move ability) would fare, but it'd take a bit more forethought than a rogue, since rather than just flanking or sneaking, you have to make sure the character has access to its target and somewhere to retreat to, or space to move and shoot in for ranged attacks.
