Demise: Ascension

Postby Dorateen » Wed Jun 01, 2011 6:47 pm

I just learned about this over the last few days, did some research, and have now picked it up.

I was surprised I had not been previously familar with it. But as I understand, the origianl base game, Demise, was released back in 2000. At that time, I was playing Baldur's Gate 2, Icewind dale, Wizards and Warriors, etc. The outlook for party-based RPGs seemed pretty good.

Now, with the upgrade Ascenion that apparently builds upon the Demise game and system, this is a massive dungeon crawl in the vein of classic Wizardy adventures. Very old school, and seems delightfully intricate and punishing.

Has anyone on these boards had experience with Demise? I'd be interested to hear some more thoughts. I've already made the purchase, so it's not about needing convincing. Just wondering if other fans of the old-school style dungeon romp were excited about this.

Seriously, 31 dungeon levels of 90 x 90 grid maps!

By the way, when KotC2 comes out, it will go straight to the top of me play list. But I think this one will keep me busy for a while.

Harumph!

I played Mordor: The Depths of Dejenol in 1997. It was first game in this series. I quite enjoyed playing it. Ascension, I never got the chance to play. I'm still waiting for this http://mordor.uni.cc/forum/index.php?showforum=46
It's a fan made remake of Mordor. Now that you mention ascension, i'll take a close look. Thanks for info

Yep, been stalking it for a rather long time now----will buy it when money avails and it is finally "widely" out and about sales/distro-wise, so probably some months from now.

Wow, the graphics seem to be really nice, as does the user interface. The combat seems to be a bit to simplistic, doesn't it? I assume it's similar to Wizardry 7 and the likes?
Is there a review or video review showing how the combat and character system works?

mordor.uni.cc was working just fine. I don't know what happened. Maybe domain expired or something.
