Interaction with scroll: why not my grimoire?

Postby LordSith » Thu Aug 13, 2020 7:52 am

Hi,
Restarting (since i'm stuck with my other save game in front of the spider queen....) I notice that even if my wizard knows reduce spell in the underwater first cave, i need to have a scroll to bypass the interaction check.

Why do not the game let me use my grimoire known spell?

Or, if it's possible: how?

My guess would be that there is no functionality in the engine to check if you have a spell memorized, so instead it either checks what classes you have in the party and what items you have in inventory to construct those interactions.

Yes obviously. The fact is that it's a bit off immersion side.

- You do not have a scroll
- but I can cast the spell!
- you should have kept the scroll
-then I would not be able to cast the spell!
- precisely."

Strictly from a story/scenario point of view I think scrolls could be considered to be a more powerful source of a spell effect than what you would get from casting from memory.

Normally, if you cast the spell Reduce from memory, the effect lasts only for 10 rounds of combat. But here you want an effect that will stay a sufficient amount of time for some exploration. So a scroll is required. Cheers :)
